About Us

Thank you for visiting Chester Mox!

We are a small company established since 2009 in Monterey Park, California that specializes in fine handmade leather goods. Each of our products are carefully handcrafted by highly skillful artisans.

We have extensive experience working with exotic skins, specifically, Alligator. We source our hides from the renown Heng Long tannery in Singapore. They are one of the finest exotic tanners in the world. We can handcraft any article available on our website from these beautiful hides, or, we can bring your own design to life as well!

We work with some local tanneries, such as Horween, and we also import our leather from France and Italy. Our stock includes: French Barenia®, French Boxed Calf, French Rusticalf, Shrunken Calf, Italian Vegetable Tanned leather, ILCEA Museum Calf, Italian Shell Cordovan, Horween Shell Cordovan, Chromexcel, Latigo, and Horse Front Chromexcel. Whether you like supple, soft, semi-firm, or firm leather, we have it all!

Each of our products are hand pricked using Blanchard iron prickers and hand sewn together using traditional yet very strong technique known as saddle stitching. Saddle stitching involves the use of two needles and an awl. As the awl puncture through the hole created by the holes previously pricked, the needles are passed through and pulled tautly. There is a knot made by each pass-and-pull so that even if one thread comes apart, the rest of the stitching won't unravel.

Our offerings include classic wallets, briefcases and accessories. However, we also specialized in custom work. If you have a bespoke project in mind, we are here to help! Please feel free to contact us at anytime, we are here for you!

Unlined: when a product is crafted with the flesh side still expose/visible.

Semi-Lined: when a product is crafted and the main body/exterior is covered by leather. Pockets/compartments remain unlined.

Fully-Lined: when a product is crafted and all the pockets/compartments/main body are covered with leather. We specialize in crafting our fully lined products with leather and not fabric.

Types of Leathers:

Barenia®/Novonappa®: This French calf leather is tanned by Tanneries Haas in France. It's famous for its patina growth through time and usage. This leather has a soft tempered and is water resistant.
Waprolux Calf: This is a printed calf type of leather by Tanneries Weinheimer. A hot roller imprint the particular look onto the leather. It is a firm and semi-aniline skin, meaning that there's a top coat added to make it water/stain/scratch resistant. The texture of this leather is not even as it has the pattern of the design printed onto it.
Shrunken Calf: This type of leather has its grains shrunken down by special technique done by Tanneries Weinheimer. The shrunken process make the grains more pronounce. This is a semi-firm leather and is semi-aniline.
Marocalf: This is a firm calf leather and the colors available in our store were custom-made specifically for Chester Mox by Tanneries Du Puy. This is a semi-aniline type of leather.
French Chévre: This is goat leather imported from France. The grains are very pronounced naturally and is soft tempered and semi-aniline.
Museum Calf: This is a firm tempered calf leather from Tannery ILCEA in Italy. The mottled or marble effect is done completely by skillful artisans in the tannery. No hides are ever the same. This is an aniline (no protective coating) type of leather. Will grow patina through time and usage.
